Search Courts and Justice, not the land-record collection

For Gillespie County, Texas criminal records, start from the county’s Online Records Search page and choose Courts and Justice Public Records Search. That collection covers court calendars, civil, family, probate, criminal, jail and jail-bond information. The separate County Clerk Public Records Search covers recorded documents such as real estate, marriage and assumed names.

In the court portal, choose the criminal-case collection rather than using a jail entry as proof of a court outcome. If spelling is uncertain, the county permits an asterisk in searches. Know what the County Clerk will and will not search

The Gillespie County Clerk does not perform criminal or probate searches for the general public. You may self-search online or in person. The office requires photo identification for transactions and is at 101 W. Main Street, Mail Unit 13, Room 109, Fredericksburg, TX 78624; telephone 830-997-6515. Its posted hours are Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m., excluding holidays.

Use the court named in the result to choose a clerk. The County Clerk keeps County Court and County Court at Law records; the District Clerk keeps pleadings and other papers in District Court proceedings. Do not ask either office to certify that a search of its own collection covers every criminal matter in the county.

Request an identified County Clerk document in writing

For regular or certified criminal copies held by the County Clerk, email a written request to [email protected]. Put the record type and case number in the subject line. Ordinary copies cost $1 per page; a certified copy costs $1 per page plus $5 for each certification. For example, one three-page certified document is $8 before any separately quoted delivery charge.

Use the District Clerk for a district-court file

For a District Court case, contact the Gillespie County District Clerk at 830-997-6517 or [email protected]. The mailing address is 101 W. Main Street, Mail Unit 3, Room 204, Fredericksburg, TX 78624. The office publishes courthouse hours of Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m., and links the Courts and Justice record search.

Send the district cause number, court, party name and precise document request. Ask for the applicable copy and certification price, accepted payment, available delivery and any restriction. The District Clerk’s page does not establish a criminal-copy price or completion guarantee; the County Clerk’s $1-plus-$5 schedule should not be transferred to a different custodian without confirmation.

Verify outcomes and use a statewide history only when needed

The county warns that online data can contain omissions or errors. A booking, charge, scheduled hearing and conviction answer different questions. Read the final court disposition, and seek the actual order when a decision depends on it. A miss in land records says nothing about criminal cases; an empty criminal search is only a result within the searched collection and identifiers.

Texas DPS offers a separate Criminal History Conviction Name Search for public conviction and deferred-adjudication information. Its fingerprint-based personal review is a different service; neither is a copy of a Gillespie court file. Name searches can select an unrelated person or miss the intended record, so do not equate a similar name with confirmed identity.

For an incorrect or missing Texas repository disposition, DPS directs the person to obtain a certified disposition from the court of jurisdiction and send it to the Crime Records Error Resolution Unit under its correction instructions. For a Gillespie court entry, first identify the holding clerk and supply the cause number and supporting order. Keep the original search result and the corrected court document together.
